on/off chain sales

UX Considerations

For each platform and user flow I've highlighted UX considerations related to transactions, messaging, setup and process.

MVP features

Together with the PM, Business Development and Head of Engineering, I've identified the main MVP features we wanted to focus on for the first iteration:

  • clear process

  • easy setup

  • tooltips for FAQ links

  • Live preview of assets

  • Easy edits

Competitive analysis

I analyzed how Magic Link, Web3Auth, and Crossmint handle on and off chain sales. I chose these platforms based on successful NFT drops done in the past.

review

I collected feedback from engineering, product management, business development and design.

blockers

Technical limitations were discovered regarding the use of audiences, multiple token support for transactions and implementation of code snippets.

organizing feedback

I had 1on1 and group conversations with members of the product team and engineering to discuss possible solutions for the blockers and facilitated alignment on solutions. We used google meets, figjam and slack to come to a consensus about ways forward.

plan

Based on the feedback in the meetings I proposed the following solutions:

  •  removing the audience feature from the MVP

  •  implementing an initial stripped-down version of code snippets

  •  implementing single-chain token support for payments

lo-fi iterations

I created lo-fi wires that show general page anatomy and functionality to submit for internal feedback from product and engineering.

Review

I collected feedback from engineering, product management, business development and design.

blockers

The feedback received at this stage mainly concerned small copy and UI changes.

organizing feedback

Since the changes required were minor, no workshops were needed and alignment could be reached directy in Figma.

plan

The wireframes were finessed and other assets such a simple prototypes were added to the file.

HI-fi iterations

The hi-fi iterations were built based on the feedback and discussions from the lo-fi stage of the project.

entry barrier

"The ability to offer both on-chain and off-chain sales is a game changer for us. It’s exactly what we needed to give players more flexibility and lower the entry barrier for new users."

more features

"We’d love to see pre-drop registration features, so players can pre-verify their wallets or payment methods to speed up the process when the drop goes live."

ease of use

I can see some useful additions in the future, such as creating audiences for drops, but the overall setup was a breeze."

impact

Here are some thoughts from clients that were able to access the Beta version of On/Off Sales on Sequence

user flow - on chain.png
overview

I usually sync with engineering before and after handoff to flesh out requirements and answer any questions about the design files. This is a good moment to ask whether developers need any extra assets or clarification.

specs

For this particular file, engineering requested anatomy information as well as sizing and spacing for layouts. Implementation notes were provided on a project and component level.

background

These flows were based on feedback from existing clients regarding their immediate needs as well as our competitive analysis.

characteristics

We will offer our users the possibility of setting up off chain sales as well as 721 and 1155 on-chain drops.

user flow

I worked with the PM assigned on the project to workshop and align on user flows for on/off-chain sales.

role

I was the Senior Product Designer on this project which I worked on from October to December 2024. I collaborated with the Project Manager, Business Development, two engineers, the Head of Product, the CTO and the Head of Design

problem

The Sequence builder does not offer options for users to quickly set up on and off-chain sales. This is a feature identified as a priority based on feedback received from existing clients who would like to set up NFT drops or in-game item sales using Sequence.

Solution

Introducing two new sections in Builder under Monetize: On and Off Chain Sales. On-chain sales will let users set up a primary sale of their collection of on-chain items, set prices, sale length and conditions. Off-chain sales lets users set up an off-chain sale channel for their items, e.g. in-game assets.

KPIs
  • New signups: we are expecting a visible increase (at least 10%) in account creation after advertising this new feature

  • Lifetime value: we are expecting to see an increase in the LTV of users by an average of 15% over six months

  • Referral growth: we are expecting to see an increase in referral users by an average of 10%

metting MVP

The project successfully met its MVP goals by delivering a clear process and easy setup for both on-chain and off-chain transaction options.

Next Steps

More feedback will be collected from users through interviews and unmoderated user testing. These findings together with data from the analytics team will inform future iterations.

Learnings

I gained a deeper understanding of how users interact with on/off-chain sales systems, particularly in the context of NFT drops. Also, by comparing different platforms, I identified common pain points and opportunities to innovate within this space.
