in-game shop

client

This is a project that I worked on for Skyweaver, a web 3 game by Horizon Blockchain Games. I worked on this project from November 2023 to present together with the Game Design, Product, Economy and Engineering Teams.

Problem

While Skyweaver had some monetization solutions (selling skins and Game Passes), it was found that additional ones were needed to ensure a steady revenue.

Solution

Creating a shop that would feature card bundles, hero skins and in game currency would help differentiate the in-game purchasing offer while improving gameplay.

research pool

I looked at both direct and indirect competitors such as Hearthstone, Magic Arena, Fortnite and Duo Lingo and analyzed differences and similarities.

goals

It was very important to understand any existing learned behaviours specific to gaming e-comm.

COMPETITOR user flows

I mapped out the user flows and e-comm features for other popular TCG games as well as indirect competitors.

shop item types

I catalogued the types of items being sold in the competitor shops and I also took note of how the items were displayed.

pricing

The pricing structure and pricing points of the items was also something that I analyzed.

competitor shop items

Understanding the content of competitor shops was an important step of the process

similar capabilities

I looked at patters of similarity between games as they can offer important insight in learned behaviour.

advantages and disadvantages

I took note of any innovative features that we should pay special attention to when creating our own shop.

comparative analysis

I looked at what competitive advantages and disadvantages other games had in the e-comm sector.

wireframes

I started with sketched wireframes to quickly illustrated initial ideas.

userflow

I illustrated how the main user flow for the shop to get initial internal feedback on the experience.

wireframes and user flows

overview

I created lo-fi wireframes in Figma so I can better illustrate the user journey through a lo-fi prototype.

feedback

I used the lo-fi prototype to gather internal feedback from stakeholder teams.

lo fi prototype

overview

Based on the internal feedback and my original research I created a first mockup iteration of the store.

goal

I used this initial iteration to gather more feedback and base future iterations on.

mockups

overview

I created a quick initial prototype to better illustrate the main concepts from my mockups.

features

The prototype only showed basic features to facilitate starting a conversation about future iterations and the direction we would like to take.

iteration

Iterations based on feedback and expanding the user flow to a full e-comm experience

future uxr

Once a final version is approved, rounds of usability testing need to be performed.

other explorations

Other features related to the shop will need to be explored once the main pages are finalized.
